1 "Boy's Own" The Complete Fanzines 1986-92 Frank Broughton (Editor), Bill Brewster (Editor)
DJhistory.com 0956189628 / 9780956189622 Hardcover New
The Boy's Own crew were having so much fun that in six years they only managed to loose off 12 issues. But these 440 pages depict acid house culture – the slang, the parties, the tunes, the humour – better than anything, as captured in the words of Farley, Mayes, Weatherall, Oakenfold and many more key players. As well as every page of every fanzine there’s a great interview with all the Boys.

2 Action Figure G. B. Trudeau
Andrews McMeel 0740715542 / 9780740715549 Paperback New
The perennial bad boy of American comics has always been a man of action: libelous action, irrational action, covert action, back-street action-even when comatose, he has a certain flair. Duke is the man of a thousand vices, with almost as many pages to his resume. For 17 years, from Samoa to China to Panama to Kuwait, wherever serious mischief was being dealt, Duke has been a major figure. "Action Figure!, " gives the Toasted One his due-one vast, staggering flashback that tracks his careening career from Gonzo Journalist to Governor, Ambassador, Coach, Laetrile Farmer, Fugitive, and Zombie. No risk has been too great, no prospect too strange, to sway the man with nerves of steel from his random course.

Last Gasp 0867194405 / 9780867194401 Paperback New
"Artcrime" is the second collection at Winston's work to be published by Last Gasp, following the highly successful "Act Like Nothing's Wrong." Winston Smith gained mass appeal through his work with the Dead Kennedys, and the foreword of "Artcrime" is by notorious punk impressario Jello Biafra. "Following that time-tested tradition of montage, collage and random image appropriation, Winston Smith takes this medium one step further than his precursors, Max Ernst and Marcel Duchamp." Robert Williams "From Kurt Schwitter's 'merz to Heartfield's photo-montage warnings of global fascism, Winston Smith's use of pop magazine image keeps in sharp focus the ever encroaching apocalyptic nightmare.' Fantagraphics 1560977035 / 9781560977032 Paperback New
"Beasts and Priests" collects for the first time more than ten years' worth of pointillist portraiture of the world's most legendary scene-makers as rendered by "HATE" collaborator and "Glam Warp" creator Jim Blanchard. Much of the black-and-white ink work here has previously seen print in some of the world's better alternative magazines and news weeklies, and the large color portraits made with brightly colored industrial stickers have appeared in the more popular art galleries of North America, such as Seattle's critically important Roq La Rue gallery. Portrait subjects include: Duke Ellington, Redd Foxx, Frances Farmer, Patti Page, Shane MacGowan, Lemmy Kilmister, Ron Jeremy, Marcel Proust, Frank Sinatra, Nell Carter, Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Curtis Mayfield, Terry Southern, Jackie Gleason, Amos Milburn, Willie Nelson, Henry Kissinger, Courtney Love, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Elvis Presley, Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, Mil Mascaras, Andy Warhol, Lee Marvin, Isaac Hayes, Johnny Cash, Bon Scott, Lee Hazlewood, Raymond Chandler, Ennio Morricone, Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce and Jim Goad.

In his eagerly anticipated follow-up to "Me Write Book," Bigfoot returns from exile to share his inspiring, hilarious, and often deeply disturbing experiences as a misunderstood forest gentleman and tragic media darling. These entertaining and often grizzly stories stand not only as a testament to the greatness of the legendary man-beast, but also as a chilling cautionary tale of the downside of a life of celebrity, cannibalism, celebrity cannibalism, wanton violence, and lack of toilet training. As in "Me Write Book," full-color glossy spreads depict every intimate, disgusting, and downright insane moment of Bigfoot's life. "Bigfoot: I Not Dead" is an unforgettable memoir that will stay with readers long after his foul scent has dissipated.

14 Book Of Genesis: Illustrated By R.Crumb Robert Crumb
W. W. Norton & Company 0393061027 / 9780393061024 Hardcover New
From Creation to the death of Joseph here are all 50 chapters of the Book of Genesis revealingly illustrated as never before. Envisioning the first book of the bible like no one before him R. Crumb the legendary illustrator reveals here the story of Genesis in a profoundly honest and deeply moving way. Originally thinking that we would do a take off of Adam and Eve Crumb became so fascinated by the Bible’s language a text so great and so strange that it lends itself readily to graphic depictions that he decided instead to do a literal interpretation using the text word for word in a version primarily assembled from the translations of Robert Alter and the King James bible.

16 Breakdowns Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Art Spiegelman
Penguin Viking 067091682X / 9780670916825 Hardcover New
"Breakdowns" - a portrait of the artist as young - was Art Spiegelman's first book, and has been described by the author as 'a comix-format memoir about becoming a comix memoirist (it contains, for instance, a fascinating section on the genesis of Maus). It chronicles with heartbreaking detail Spiegelman's own nervous breakdown, his experiments with psychedelic drugs, his mother's suicide and his incarceration in a mental hospital. It also includes vivid portraits of his artist friends, mentors, girlfriends and more generally the birth of underground comix in the 1960s. No one with an interest in the American counterculture, the development of graphic art, or indeed Spiegelman himself, should miss this.

17 Brian Chippendale: Maggots Brian Chippendale
PictureBox 0978972260 / 9780978972264 Paperback New
In this follow-up to his acclaimed graphic novel Ninja--which was reviewed in such diverse sources as The New York Times Art Review and The Comics Journal--the co-founder of the legendary Providence underground art and music space Fort Thunder gives us an immersive frenetic reading experience. Originally drawn in 1996 over the pages of a Japanese book catalogue Brian Chippendale's monumental 350-page graphic novel Maggots is reproduced here in a facsimile edition with every nick and tear in tact. The line work--incredibly dense because Chippendale needed to cover up the Japanese catalogue--nearly vibrates off every page. As for the story it concerns a group of characters who live in a place called Fort Thunder and wander around discovering little holes in their universe battle a capitalist landlord eat peanut butter sandwiches and embark on adventures somewhere between dirt punk and epic cosmic science fiction. Chippendale's drawings are much like his famed drumming for the noise rock band Lightning Bolt: propulsive soulful and chaotic. But like his best songs Maggots opens up into beautiful visual passages vistas of temples and flowers--all drawn in scorching black marks that tell a story in their own abstractions. This book has several built-in cult followings.
